Adult foundation skills training

The standard of literacy, numeracy and basic IT skills in remote Aboriginal communities is exceptionally low with too many people unable to read, write, count or perform basic mathematics.  This creates a barrier to gaining and maintaining employment, particularly in an era of increasing adoption of technology.  This is why we focus on bringing basic individual reading, writing and IT skills to a practical and usable level to increase individual confidence and set up our people for successful, long-term careers.

Literacy

Our courses go back to basics; structuring sentences, capital letters, full stops, commas, writing paragraphs and improving reading skills.

The objective is to build the confidence needed to effectively communicate in written form.

Numeracy

We go back over fundamentals including:  adding, subtracting, multiplication, division, fractions, percentages and reading tables.  This then gets used in a range of practical exercises including timesheets, filling out forms and basic data entry.

Basic IT skills

We cover the basics of using modern technology, password management, saving personal documents, maintaining an online profile, using online services and emailing.
